Forest Giants: Water, Dust and the Forest Path

A forest encounter is often told through small gestures: a splash of water, a cloud of dust, the weight of a passing body and the careful steps of a younger elephant.

For elephants, the forest is not simply a backdrop. Water cools the body; dust is thrown across the skin; narrow tracks become routes between cover and open ground. A younger elephant moving along a path offers a different scale of presence from a full-grown animal, while tusks and green foliage frame the quiet strength of an animal made for this landscape. These photographs bring together separate encounters, linked by the gestures through which elephants inhabit their world.
