I’m drawn to the character of a place, the presence of wildlife, and the fleeting human moments that can be easy to miss. Photography gives me a way to pause, look closer and capture something of what makes each moment distinctive.

I grew up in Gulbarga, a small town in north Karnataka, surrounded by watercolours and sketchbooks. Drawing and painting were a big part of my childhood, and I entered art competitions whenever I could. After graduating in 2002, life took me in a different direction. My career brought me to Hyderabad, Bengaluru and Hong Kong, and art gradually moved into the background. The curiosity never left; eventually, it found its way back through photography.

I started with an entry-level Canon 550D and taught myself through reading, experimentation and plenty of mistakes. Each photograph taught me to look at the world differently.

In January 2019, I was recognised as the Overall Winner — Photographer of the Year 2018 in the Global HSBC Water Programme Photography Competition, for a series in the “Our Changing World” category. In April 2019, National Geographic featured my photograph “Ritual of Respect” as Photo of the Day.

My photographs have since appeared in competitions, publications and exhibitions. One was selected as the cover image for Stephen Prothero’s Religion Matters, published by W. W. Norton & Company.

My work moves between wildlife, landscapes, architecture and street photography. Across these subjects, I’m interested in the details, atmosphere and unexpected moments that give a photograph its own character.

Across wildlife, landscapes, architecture and street photography, I’m interested in the details, atmosphere and unexpected moments that give a subject its own character. I hope these photographs invite you to pause and look again. If an image stays with you, I’d be glad to hear from you.
